The Northeast/Mid-Atlantic Agroforestry (NEMA) Working Group is a network of researchers, technical service providers, agency staff, farmers and producers focused on educating, promoting and implementing agroforestry systems in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic Region of North America.

NEMA’s Goals:
- Identify key barriers, gaps and opportunities for enhancing the adoption of tree and shrub based perennial agricultural systems in the region
- Collaborate on regional trainings, technical resource development and research efforts for resolving core issues identified
- Establish a region wide network of technical service providers, producers and landowners to collaborate, share and enhance the communication on agroforestry developments and resource opportunities
- Inspire innovation in perennial tree/shrub based agricultural systems through regional networking and resource sharing
- Enhance the economic diversity and potential for land-based economies through tree and shrub based perennial agriculture
- Work across social, economic, technological and environmental disciplines for increasing awareness and application of agroforestry as a multifunctional approach towards sustainability in agriculture and natural resource management
