In 2020, The Adams County Farmers Market Association was awarded a USDA-FMPP grant that provided capacity building support for ACFMA when their operating costs increased due to the success of their outreach and wellness programs. These programs benefit many and positively impact food access in Adams County while supporting local farms and the economy. As part of the project, Capital RC&D is hosting the 2023 Peer-to-Peer Farmers Market Forum for staff, volunteers, board members, and key partners of farmers markets in south central Pennsylvania to meet or reconnect and learn from each other about best practices being used throughout the region.
In addition to networking and farmers market updates, facilitated discussion may focus on:
  • Market management; sustainability, infrastructure, staffing
  • Vendor development; attracting and retaining vendors
  • Community engagement; partner development, identifying role within communities
  • Healthy food & low-income access; wellness and nutrition incentive programs, redemption initiatives (SNAP/FMNP), outreach, funding, metrics & data sources
