Engineering Support Staff
Position Description
 
Overview:
The Engineering Support Staff position is a grant funded, part-time employee of the Capital Resource Conservation and Development (Capital RC&D) Area Council, Inc. and reports directly to the US Department of Agriculture NRCS State Engineer. This is a part-time position to be in the office three days per week on a fixed schedule to provide engineering support for the NRCS dam rehabilitation program. The position is located at the NRCS State Office -  359 East Park Drive, Suite 2, Harrisburg PA 17111.
 
NRCS hires outside consultants to evaluate existing flood control dams and provide proposals to rehabilitate them to current state and federal standards.  Once the method is selected, the consultants then develop detailed engineering drawings and specifications for that site.  In addition, NRCS is assisting on the development of four PL-566 watershed Plan Development.  The selected individual will assist in assuring that they are on track with their duties and those of the consultant developing the plan.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
 
The position will assist in comprehensive review of the work submittals at various stages of the planning or design process of High Hazard Dams located in Pennsylvania.   
 
Desired Skills and Experience: 
  • Detail oriented
  • A PE is required
  • A minimum of 20 years of experience in the following areas:
    • Knowledge of PA State permit requirements for High Hazard Dams,
    • General geotechnical knowledge, 
    • Knowledge of hydrology and hydraulics,
    • General structural design and
  • Knowledge of all aspects of earthen dams.
